Description

3 Bedroom, 2 bath, wonderful views.
NOTICE - Tonto Forrest Closure: The closure of areas within Tonto Forrest does not apply to private property. Our Cabin at Kohls Ranch is on private property. At this time, there are no active fires near Kohls Ranch or Highway 260. Fishing and swimming at Tonto Creek is open.

The Cabin is situated on 3 lots providing space from the neighboring cabins. The elevation is 5300 feet which is typically 15 to 20 degrees or more cooler than the Phoenix metro area.

The upstairs sleeping area (4 beds) can be divided for privacy using the bi-fold doors. The downstairs sofa bed sleeps 2.

The Kitchen has a gas stove, 2 apartment size refrigerators, microwave, coffee maker (you provide the grounds, we provide the filters) toaster and toaster oven. Plates, cups, glasses, flatware, and pots and pans are provided.

We have an amazing view of Tonto Creek from The Cabin both indoors and out. The creek access is via a stone stairway with handrail. The creek has a shallow play area for younger kids, and a deeper are for older children and adults. NO DIVING, there are rocks in the water. The deeper end is also a favorite for fishing.

There is a covered patio and 1 covered parking space. There is a second level deck over the parking spot giving great views. There is additional uncovered parking on the driveway and on the north side of the property (north access by removing 2 fence rails). The Cabin is on a dead end road so traffic is minimal.

The location is 673 S. Meadow Lane, Payson, Az. 85541. The street name was changed as part of 911 registration and used to be Mockingbird Lane. If a mapping program cannot find Meadow Lane, try Mockingbird Lane.

Horse riding is available within a 10 minute walk.

The Zane Grey Restaurant and Bar at the Kohls Ranch Lodge is excellent for Lunch or Dinner and is also a 10 minute walk.

Christopher Creek is about 5 minutes past the Kohls Ranch turn on highway 260. The area offers a general store, and additional dining options.

ASU Camp Tontozona is also within a 10 minute walk. ASU preseason football training is there each summer.

The Cabin can also provide a great base camp for hunting or fishing.

A propane grill is available on the lower patio.

A washer and dryer are also provided for your convenience.

The Cabin front is to the community meadow. The meadow is restricted to residents and guests. It is a great area to play catch, softball, or just hang out. Shortly before sunset the meadow is definitely the place to be. Setup chairs and enjoy the twilight. Often there are birds catching bugs in the air around sunset and it is great to watch. After dark, walk out to the meadow and look up. The stars are amazing. With a pair of binoculars you can see lots and lots of stars, the moon if it is up, and planets if up. Some people spread out a tarp and observe lying on their back (do not use a blanket or sheet, it will be covered in burs and twigs).

This is a No Smoking property. Smoking indoors or near the patios will result in loss of your Security Deposit. There are designated smoking areas to each side of the property.

NO FIRE. Camp Fires are not allowed. The single greatest threat to The Cabin is Fire. There is NO location within which to make a camp fire either on the property or the Meadow. Since we are within a national forest everyone is quite paranoid concerning open fires.

The property is about 15 minutes from Payson (for those things you thought you brought but find out that you did not). Also Payson offers a wide choice of Restaurant dining and entertainment. The property is also about 20 minutes away from the top of the Mogollon Rim (7000 feet) where you can enjoy a panoramic view, and offering several destinations (Heber, Woods Canyon Lake, and much more).

Guest Testimonial:

"We really enjoyed our stay at your cabin. My kids had a blast being so close to the creek. It was great not having internet. Very nice, clean, user friendly, and perfect for small children. We may have worn out the carpet on the inside stairs a bit. My 2&4 yr olds loved the spiral stairs. They have never seen interior stairs. I hope we left it in decent shape.

I appreciate that it was clean and well maintained.

I can't say that we will be back. As we enjoy trying new things but, I will certainly suggest your situation at every opportunity. We spent a day hiking and fishing the creek and visiting the fish hatchery. And another day 4-wheeling up at Milk Point. We also spent time playing on the lawn and watching movies in the evening. Thank you for a great experience all the way around."

Unfortunately the property was constructed beginning the the 1950, and as such is not ADA compliant. There are level changes from the front porch, side patio, stairs to the creek, and upstairs bedrooms.

This property has mounted animal trophies (2). If a person finds this offensive, they should not rent this property.

Great place

Great place to get away from the triple digits, has everything you need. We were looking for a place to stay with family and were able to get this reserved at the last minute and we couldn't have picked a nicer place. Definitely will be going back!

Peaceful

Quiet and peaceful. Very nice having the Tonto Creek right behind it. We caught trout with the kids and had a great time.

Decent cabin

Quirky design which I liked. Great break with beautiful weather.
