Description
Fully furnished 900 square foot home with two bedrooms with en suite baths (with soap, shampoo and linens) provide privacy for couples traveling together. Sleeps 4 maximum; no children under 16. The property is "unplugged" - no TV, no Wi-Fi, no DVD player; cell reception is excellent. The open plan living/dining/kitchen area includes washer/dryer; kitchen is fully furnished and ready for cooking your own food. Coffee and tea and popcorn is provided. Also, various spices and oil for cooking are in the upper cabinet between the stove and fridge. Microwave, toaster, blender, small food processor, an electric skillet, and a crock pot extend your cooking options. Bring your own charcoal for the small Weber BBQ (4 steaks or 4 hamburgers at a time) - THIS IS NOT A PARTY GRILL. Wrap-around porch offers different areas to sit and enjoy the wild beauty of the area. Sit on the back porch to watch the moon rise.
The two en suite bedrooms have a full-size bed, to sleep 4 maximum.
Again, there is no TV or WiFi or DVD player; cell reception is excellent.
Smoking is not allowed anywhere on the property.
REMEMBER TO ALWAYS HAVE PLENTY OF WATER WITH YOU, WHEREVER YOU GO! Hat and sunscreen are also a good idea. The weather can change quickly in the Chihuahuan Desert.
Big Bend National Park is about an hour's drive south, making Red House a perfect base for exploring the Park and all it has to offer. It is about another 30 minutes to reach the Chisos Mountain Basin.
Alpine is 32 miles to the west, and is the largest town in Brewster County - the historic Holland Hotel, shopping and restaurants and grocery stores, and very walkable. Continuing west on Highway 90 is Marfa. The Marfa Lights viewing station is on the south side of Highway 90, 8 miles before you reach Marfa. Marfa, too, is very walkable and has shops and restaurants, as well as the historic Paisano Hotel, as well as the St George. Continuing west on Highway 90 is Valentine (take a selfie in front of the post office) and just beyond Valentine is iconic Prada Marfa (take a lock to hang on the fence behind the installation - see if you can find the Red House Lock), on the south side of the road. Return to Marfa and follow the sign to the Scenic Loop, which will take you to Fort Davis and the McDonald Observatory - see the Observatory's website and book a Star Party if you can!

Amazing Unplugged Nature Galore Getaway
Nice play to stay for a Big Bend trip, the national park is awe-inspiring and about an hour away! Thanks for giving us a place to rest our heads at night! Very clean and quiet and close to the Gage hotel and gardens (walking distance)!

Clean and Comfy
We attended a wedding at the Gage Gardens and the "red house" was a perfect location for that event. It was SO clean and beds were super comfy. Very pleased and would definitely stay there again!
