Description

Sunrise over the ocean, sunset behind the coconut trees, stars reflecting in the water like diamonds; this is what frames your daily life over here at Ray's Place. Here, you are reminded of how beautiful the world is.

Once in your vacation home, let yourself be charmed by the gentle sound of the slow rolling waves on the beach, grab your binoculars when spotting a pod of dolphins passing by, or stay up to enjoy the moon rise over the ocean.

It is our pleasure to welcome you here to our little slice of paradise. We offer a clean and functional apartment with a breath-taking view over the Atlantic ocean. There are two other apartments in the same building. One vacation rental to the West side of the unit. The owners occupy the first floor. In addition to all the attractions you have planned to visit there is plenty to do right here on property: you are welcome to enjoy a barbecue cookout at the Tiki, a leisurely swim in the warm waters right in front of the house, or a kayak excursion.(kayaks available to owners and vacationers only). The beach is your backyard... snorkel gear comes in handy, so do water shoes and a fishing license.

For your convenience we have buoys right off shore of the property for your boat.

We also have a coin operated laundry room on property.

Across the street is the beginning of a very nicely renovated section of the Florida Keys Heritage Trail that leads you all the way to the town of Marathon. We particularly like to 'go for a walk' there early in the morning when a variety of birds are out and about. These include cardinals, mangrove cuckoos, white-crowned pigeons and yellow throat warblers.

Bird watchers need not go any further than the balcony to share the sky with birds. A loft in the heavens is really what this balcony should be called.

...back on earth, it's time to eat and we do not feel like cooking or getting in the car to find a restaurant, not a problem, the Grassy Key Outpost restaurant is next door offering a nice selection of dishes, it is also a convenience store (closed on Mondays)

In our neighborhood, Tursi, Gambit and friends are waiting to put on a show for you at the Dolphin Research Center. Home to Flipper in the 60's, DRC is located 1/4 of a mile from the property.

One mile South of us is Curry Hammock State Park where you actually do not need a park entrance ticket to stroll the hammock, just ask a local.

Three miles out to sea is marker 45, a nice place to fish mangrove and yellowtail snappers, and a few more miles South is Coffin's Patch Reef, a delightful protected area to dive or snorkel. Both locations are a few minutes away by boat from the property.

These are merely suggestions in addition to all the wonderful things that are yours to discover throughout the Florida Keys. We are so proud of our Grassy Key Island that we had to boast about it!

Cozy, comfy, affordable and plain fun!

Loved our five-day stay at this wonderful find. The unit has just about everything one needs--sunscreen, assorted food items and condiments (olive oil, spices, mustard, mayo, jam, etc.), enough dishes and pans, coffee maker, foil, plastic wrap, etc. Don't expect high end luxury--instead, this is a funky and charming apartment with basic furnishings (including an extremely comfortable bed) and an amazing waterfront view. In fact, we enjoyed the place so much that we cooked every night, just so we could sit on the deck and enjoy the evenings. Isabel is a wonderful host, and truly cares about her guests. The area is still recovering from the 2017 hurricane, and the stories from Isabel and other residents of this area reflect the difficulty, hard work, and determination shared by the locals. This is another good reason to visit this property. I hope to return!

Wonderful!

We were greeted by our host Isabel, who simply could not have been nicer. The home was extrememy clean and the views were awesome. We sat on the deck wondering when was the last time we could see the stars in the night sky on vacation. No light pollution. Quiet and relaxing,. If you're looking for fancy, keep moving. However, if you want a clean, beautiful place to recharge, with people who treat you like a friend, then this is your place. We will be back!
